How do you benefit from being a member of Fox Cities Greenways Inc.?

Being a member offers a sense of collaboration with others in building a better community and helps us to stay informed of opportunities to be an active participant. I enjoy walking and riding the trails on my recumbent bicycle, primarily as recreation. I think it is amazing to see the increase in use of trails, to hear people say that the ability to travel via trail to work or for exercise has changed their lives for the better, and to watch the Fox Cities work toward a more comprehensive interconnected greenway and trail system.

Why is an organization like Fox Cities Greenways Inc. important to the community?

Over my years working in community planning, I have learned that most places that excel and create fantastic things for their communities do so because of a public/private partnership. Each has its strengths and together, great things happen. Occasionally, one or the other can do something alone but for long-term success, you need both. This seems especially true for trails of all kinds. I think that it is important that we have a regional organization, not just many local ones because successful walking, biking and trail facilities cross many boarders and you need a coordinated approach to make everything and everyone work together. Greenways provides that for the Fox Cities.

Why is it important for our community to have access to trails and greenspaces?

In my 40 years of biking to work and for pleasure in the Appleton area, I have witnessed tremendous changes. Bike travel is now safer, easier, pleasant and possible within our community. The Apple Creek Trail has provided the biggest benefit for me; first by biking safely to work at North High School and now as a pleasurable prairie plant and bird-filled trail for exercise. More recently, the Drew Street bike lane allows me a much safer ride to the downtown Appleton. I am very grateful!
